SMS Compliance

AskACurrentParent.com is an SMS conversation program owned and operated by K12 Assist LLC. This page explains its purpose, participant enrollment, SMS consent, message handling, and STOP/HELP options.

Business and program identity

Legal entity: K12 Assist LLC

Program and brand: AskACurrentParent.com

Website: AskACurrentParent.com

Participants: Adults who are prospective parents, current-parent volunteers, and authorized representatives of participating organizations.

Program purpose: Facilitate organization-specific question-and-answer conversations by SMS. The conversations concern a particular participating organization or program, but enrollment and consent are for the AskACurrentParent.com messaging program operated by K12 Assist LLC.

Joining is separate from consenting to text messages

A prospective parent or current-parent volunteer accesses an organization-specific AskACurrentParent.com web registration page. Each page identifies the relevant organization and asks the participant for registration information. The registration form provides a separate, unchecked SMS consent checkbox. The form also links to the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, with agreement to the Terms and acknowledgment of the Privacy Policy communicated at submission. SMS consent is not preselected.

Submitting personal information or asking to join Ask-A-Current-Parent does not, by itself, authorize SMS messages. Only an affirmative SMS consent action can authorize the SMS conversation workflow. SMS consent is voluntary, although the SMS conversation service cannot be delivered without permission to send messages.

Where participants join

Prospective parents: Use a participating organization's Ask-A-Current-Parent invitation link or QR code, which directs them to an organization-specific form at askacurrentparent.com/join/[organization-location].

Current-parent volunteers: Use the organization-specific volunteer registration page at askacurrentparent.com/parents/[organization-location]. Participants identify themselves as current parents and may subsequently be invited to answer questions.

Organization representatives: Authorized staff may manage their organization's AACP participation and may have access to conversation records or participate in some conversations. Their access does not transfer operation of the Ask-A-Current-Parent messaging program to the organization.

SMS consent disclosure

The organization-specific signup forms display this consent disclosure, naming the participating organization in place of [Organization]:

I agree to receive text messages from AskACurrentParent.com (K12 Assist LLC) about parent questions and answers covering [Organization]. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help.

The registration system records the participant and organization and stores the time of affirmative SMS consent. Additional disclosure-version evidence is being implemented and should be verified before submitting a 10DLC campaign.

What messages are sent

Ask-A-Current-Parent messages relate to invitations for volunteer current parents, replies indicating availability, parent-connection messages, relayed questions and answers, operational reminders, and conversation-ending notices. Ask-A-Current-Parent does not use this messaging flow for unrelated promotional or third-party marketing messages. Message frequency depends on participant activity and the number of conversations.

How conversations are handled

AskACurrentParent.com is designed to act as the intermediary: it receives and records replies sent to its service phone number, identifies the authorized conversation and participants, and relays messages to the other authorized participants. Participants' personal phone numbers are not intended to be displayed to one another in relayed SMS messages. Authorized organization administrators may nevertheless view participants' registration information and conversation transcripts in the application.

Conversation duration and reconnecting

Conversations automatically end after 12 hours of inactivity. Prospective parents can return to the participating organization's AskACurrentParent.com signup page at any time to request another conversation, subject to SMS consent and current-parent availability.
